Welcome to the world of my cattery Edelweiss!
My cattery was founded in 1997. before 1997 I raised ordinary cats. In 1997 I purchased a highbred kitten even though I knew nothing about the bred. All I had were a few post cards in my possession with photos of the cats. My first purchase was the Persuan breed. The difficulty for me was in choosing the color and the sex. My desire was to purchase two male cats, one in a cream color and the other in a black smoky color.
I began my search of the perfect Persian by telephoning people with ads in the newspaper. I didnt realise at that time that I could apply to the Cat Club. In my search using the newspaper I could not find the colors that I wanted. All these kittens were not from planned litters.
One day I came upon a post card with a chinchilla colored Persian. At that very moment I knew that is what I had to have as my first Persian.
I began my search for chinchilla colored Persian and on July 10th, 1997 I purchased my first highbred cat PER ns 11 (shaded silver) Eurydica Monplaisir (affectionately known as Usenka) from the Monplaisir cattery. The owner of this cattery is also the president of the oldest cat club in St. Petersburg Kotofey.
This small and sweet kitten, Usenka. Was just two months old when she entered my life. In autumn of that year I made a decision to show my Usenka in the club.
I started by making call to our breeder Prokofiev, Natalia and she invited us to a session at the club. Everything was so new for me. As I sat I absorbed every word as though I was a sponge absorbing water. By the end of the session I had registered Usenka for the cat show and I got an invitation to work at the show as a steward.
I started to go to the club every Monday. At our first show Usenka was given the Best Junior award. She wowed everyone with her perfect fur and tenderness. I can still remember the words of O.S.Mironov, today we give a first place to the charming Persian. Of course I was in seventh heaven.
After the cat show someone brought kittens to be registered. They were the breed of Don Sphinx. At that time I had some knowledge regarding this particular breed. Because of this I was given opportunity to have the pick of the litter. It was truly a blessing. My thoughts were that I should give the owner of the original litter a kitten from my first litter.
After this were more and more kittens in my life, much time working as a steward as the various cat shows, participating in the cats genetic course, etc...
And then came the time for my beautiful Usenka to mate for the first time.
At this time the cat club was closed for summer vacation. We were looking for the perfect mate for Usenka on our own. We had chosen an exotic shorthair chinchilla colored male Int. Ch. Sapphire. As a result, I had filled in ranks and files of breeders. Then on September 18th, 1998 the most wonderful event took place. My charming Usenka gave birth to her first highbred kitten EXO ns 11 Edelweisss Bernadetta de Bon Matin.
This event gave me the idea to register for my own cattery. But, in order to do this my own cat would have to be a champion. My Usenka was not a champion yet. But I thought of the future and the future of my very own cattery and gave the name Edelweiss to the new kitten in my life.
In the early months of 1999 I made a decision to obtain my ownhighbred chinchilla male.there was a severe lack of this type in St. Petersburg. The experienced O.S. Mironova recommended that I use color-points for chonchilla. She advised me that seal-tabbie-point would be perfect.
Around that time I attended a cat show and came in contact with a small Persian male whose color was seal-tabbie-point. It was a male cat with noble blood but very malnourished. I look this Persian home, took a chance and now this noble male cat has a title of World Chmpion of World Cat Federation (WCF).
In April 1999 Usenka gave birth to a male we named Torrente de Gran Cuarteto Edelweiss (Pushkin) PER ns 24 62 (silver spotted with yellow eyes). He is almost an extreme type, but has yellow eyes, wich he inherited from his father. His father was an extreme black male color-point-carrier.
Pushkin now lives in the city of Petrozavodsk, it is located in Karelia.
At about that same time I bought a Siberian male (now World Champion WCF) Tcharodey Marcell SIB n 22 black blotched tj couple with my old Siberian cat we called Kisulia. Unfortunately Kisulia was unable to deliver her kittens naturally and needed an emergency Caesarian Section on January 19th, 2000. she died afterward. It was a tragedy for me.
Later I replaced Kisulia with a new mature cat from a cattery known as Chingi-Tura, owned by Smirnova Dina. The cat was a blue-cream-tabbie with white. She was named Natalie Chingi-Tura. I now have her granddaughter Edelweiss Khrabrost' (Valiancy) SIB n 23 03 (black mackerel tabbie with white).
Soon after I bought a silver Siberian cat named Dashenka Crystal Eavesdrop. On November 18th, 2000 she had her first litter. The father of the litter was Tcharodey. Among the kittens was a silver male cat called Edelweiss Guertsog (Duke). In the springtime this male was sold and was taken to the city of Kirov. Kirov is located on the river Vyatka, far South of my city.
Soon I fot another cat from Vyatka. A beautiful silver tiger Siberian Gr.Int.Ch. Silvia Siberian Pearl.
In the autumn of 2000 I welcomed a litter of a beautiful Siberian kittens. The proud parents were Tcharodey and Urchila Marcell. Urchila Marcell was a female cat the color of black blotched. She came to me only to melt with Tcharodey.
She gave birth to three female kittens. One kitten moved to Finland, one to the city of Petrozavodsk, and the last one continues to live in st. Petersburg.
I have also owned a blue blotched male named Edelweiss Dozhdik (Rain). This cat became a Gr.Int.Ch. WCF. At the age of 1 year and 9 months he moved to Poland. He has a successful career in Poland becoming Gr.Int.Ch. FIFe! I am so very proud of him.
